Article of the Day: The Battle to Service our Cars

This topic has been gaining more and more traction over the last year or so, and it's all about whether we should legally have the right to service and modify our own cars. The arguement from the car sellers and manufacterers basically has to do with copyright issues, more specifically about the computer system that is in every new (and a lot of used) cars out there. Since the computer systems are the property of the manufacterors, and would be very simple to 'hack' into and corrupt (with disassterious affects on not just your own car), they want to limit the access that the owners would have to those systems and to the car itself. Personally I think that there has been a lot of fuss and worry from companies over copyright issues (See the TPP for more of that!) but the fact remains that tampering with the computer systems in these cars can lead to viruses and accidents galore. Though, cutting a brake line will lead to disaster and you were still able to work on your brakes back before computers... What do you think? Write in the comments below!
