Article of the Day: Tesla Going Vegan

In the lighter side of news, Tesla's Model X has just been recently announced as being 100% vegan, if you so choose. The 'Ultra White' interior option, the only choice so far, comes with a fully vegan interior, with synthetic leather seats, steering wheel, and gear shift. The company has supposedly created the new option after receiving criticism from potential customers who felt that the companies eco-friendly stance on limiting emissions made no sense when the cars included animal products. Not coincidentally, PETA is a shareholder of Tesla Motors, and has urged the company to offer vegan 'leather' for their interiors. The Model X is slated for delivery by the end of 2016. Do you have any experience with fake leather? Tell us in the comment section.

Article of the Day: US to spend $4B for Autonomous Cars

Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx has just announced billions in funding for the development of autonomous cars over the next decade and promised to help refine regulations that might pose roadblocks for this technology. The money would apparently pay for pilot programs that test connected vehicle systems in designated environments around the country. Also, over the next 6 months the Dept. of Transportation will work with officials in the National Highway Traffice Safety Administration to develop guidance for the auto industry on establishing principles of safe operation for what NHTSA calls Level 4, the highest standard of automation in which cars perform all safety critical driving and humans are not expected to be available for control. They want to make new state and federal regulations concerning the operation of autonomous vehicles. What do you think about the government sponsoring autonomous driving technology, creating regulations? Write in the comment section below.

Article of the Day: Driverless Car Survey

In a new survey undertaken by Volvo, of some 10,000 respondents worldwide, they have found an interesting trend. It shows that an overwhelming majority of 92% of respondents said that for a driverless cars they would want the driver to be able to take control of the car no matter what, any time possible. This means that a lot of car companies are going to have to put in steering wheels and pedals where they might not have planned for, if they want the public's confidence. 'Concept 26', an automotive technology company, proposes a retractable steering column that would withdraw out of the way when not in use, along with a driver seats that could transition between 3 different positions. Would you be comfortable without being able to drive manually with an autonomous car? Tell us below.

Article of the Day: Autonomous Mercedes!

This 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has authorization for public autonomous testing in Nevada, and looks like any other. That's because these cars are the first 'standard-production' vehicles to receive the license in the state. Unlike the other autonomous cars for Google and such, this car does not require any additional hardware or sensors to be mounted on the top. The only modifications to the car are to the software, making it look like just any other car. Nevada has been a hotbed of car development and testing lately, with companies such as Google, Audi, Kia, and Daimler testing out autonomous cars on its streets. What do you think of a driver-less car that looks like any other? The future is coming fast.
